2015 Chrysler 200 Sedan

2015 Chrysler 200 Sedan

PREVIEW

The Chrysler 200 is redesigned for 2015 as a larger midsize sedan and offers more memorable styling, a more upscale interior and improved performance.
On the surface, a new Chrysler 200 design doesn't merit much notice. The current 200, though capable, is an also-ran among midsize sedans dominated by the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. But the Italian-owned Detroit automaker intends to raise its profile in the segment, starting with the redesigned 2015 Chrysler 200.
Chrysler will build the new 200 atop the same mechanical structure as the Dodge Dart and the new Jeep Cherokee. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder serves as the base engine, making 184 horsepower. Upgrading to the 3.6-liter V6 gets you 295 hp and 262 pound-feet of torque, as well as the option of all-wheel drive. Both engines pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Chrysler hasn't announced fuel economy ratings yet, but four-cylinder models are expected to yield as much as 35 mpg highway.
The new 200 is nearly an inch longer and wider than the current 200. That doesn't sound like much, nor does the extra cubic foot of interior space. Even the new 200's sleeker roof line sacrifices about an inch of front and rear headroom. On the other hand, there's more room for passengers' arms and elbows, and rear seat passengers gain a generous 1.5 inches of legroom.
The 200 offers other space-saving ideas inside. A rotary transmission selector replaces a shift lever and enables an open pass-through storage area with access to power points for mobile devices. The center console itself is multi-configurable, allowing several different options for maximizing space. Anchoring the center console is either a 5- or 8.4-inch screen for displaying infotainment features.
Standard and optional safety features include lane departure warning with steering assist, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control and parking assist.
The new 200 goes on sale this spring starting at $22,795 and is available in four trim levels: LX, Limited, 200S and 200C. The 200S is a sport-oriented model, while the 200C marks the premium end.
